The Super Bowl Post

As tradition here at Beantown Baseball we take a break from Red Sox talk. It’s time for the annual Super Bowl post.

First things first I would be completely lacking on all account if I didn’t first say that the wound that is the 2010-2011 New England Patriots. Ok I mentioned them… Moving on Moving on.

In case you haven’t heard the Super Bowl is tomorrow February 6th 2011 at Cowboys Stadium between the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Or the two cities that house the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers.

Now while both baseball teams and their respected football teams are vast fully differently. (Pittsburgh last won it all in 1979) and the Brewers have yet to win all having won the AL in 1982.

Both the Brewers and Pirates have new managers (Clint Hurdle for the pirates) and First year manager Ron Roenicke. Both are strong baseball men and should inject some life into their clubs.

The Brewers not only hired Roenicke (from the Mike Sociosica coaching tree)

But they also went out and traded for Zack Greinke which makes them the clear favorite between the two. But don’t count Hurdle and the Buc’s out as their mix of young talent may impress.

Now as far as the Game on Sunday I’ll have to say I’m pulling for the packers. Look for it to be a shoot out.

MY Deadline Deal

Ok I have to be honest this season hasn’t been what I expected but in the same breath I can also say I haven’t been disappointed . I think that the 2010 Red Sox have been gritty and a fun group to watch . I also feel that Tito has done an amazing job with what he has had to work with . All that said I think ( I hope I am wrong) this team is not going to get healthy in time .However, I think if the front office makes a move they could make this a great race and October could be in sight .

I know a lot of you are thinking that getting healthy might be the best move they could make and you might be right however, I think that the right move could make really help . Who do they get? Who do they trade away ???

Here is my Trade Deadline Trade

Jed Lowrie

Michale  Bowden

Adrian Beltre

To The Brewers for

PRINCE FIELDER

Crazy???? Maybe but, it might just work

Your not giving up too much and Fielder could provide a little extra to put them over the top

Bowden could really end up working out for the Brewers and the Sox get a big bat.  Youk moves to third and all of a sudden we have ourselves some October baseball

TUCK RULE

The Red Sox value good catching and  V-Mart and Tek might only be half the story. The Bullpen coach Gary Tuck is considered a catching “guru” and is held in high regard not only with the Sox but in baseball as well.  Tuck also has minor league managing experience as well as being Joe Giradi’s bench coach in Florida. By having him as their bullpen coach not only can he pass on his catching wisdom but  the Red Sox can maybe  tuck him away as a manager in waiting .

mike-lowell-rounds-the-bases.jpgMike Lowell
met with the media yesterday. Mike Lowell is a class guy, really no surprise here he is a class guy on and off the field. I still think the Sox need to keep him around but, we’ll see. My mom always said “being nice goes a long way ” He will play this season and may or may not be with Boston but I can honestly say where ever he goes I will always be a Mike Lowell fan.

Every year the Sox sign a veteran to be the ultra super sub this year it’s Bill Hall. Hall who had a career year in 2006 with the Brewers has been unable to duplicate his success which landed him in Seattle. I really like this pick-up this could reap huge reward for the Red Sox. If Beltre has injuries or issues this year and Mike Lowell is gone the SOX will have themselves a solid replacement.  I also think he has a lot to prove and a ball player on a mission can mean good things for their club.
