Jose Today

With Jed Lowrie feeling under the weather ( I can relate) Jose iglesias will get the start in Toronto. Should be a great sneak with what we’ll expect over the next few years from Iglesias .

In other news it has been reported by various sorces that the Red Sox may be interested in Benji Molina. This could be a good pick up but, I don’t know how I feel about two Vets at catcher .I think the Sox should stay within the system but thats just me. Well sorry for the short post off to get some rest .

West Coast Win !

w.jpgJust when you din’t think a road win was possible , a funny thing happened in oakland today the Red Sox squeaked out a win . Clay didn’t set the worl on fire today but, pitched good enough to win . (his first of the year ) Kevin Youkilis , J.D Drew and Mr “Play me everyday ” Jed Lowrie all went yard. The bullpen was a little shaky but they got it done ( barely )

rich hill.jpgI’ve been keeping an eye on things down in Pawtucket , Rich Hill , Andrew Miller and maybe Kevin Duckworth could all impact the bullpen  at the major leauge level . I have been a strong supporter of Oakjima but I feel perhaps that he has seen better days . Rich Hill would be the next on my list to bring up . He has been working on  his arm slot and has been real strong in Pawtucket. I think he could serve as a left handed specalist much like Tony Fosass.

Wicked Good WIN

Memo to the Red Sox: You might want to schedule all of Matsuzaka’s remaining starts at 11am.

In a word “WOW” he was great .  The Red Sox needed a game like this and what a perfect way to end the homestand. They now take a three game winning streak with them to the west coast.

Not only did they get great pitching from Dice K but , Jed Lowrie was  4-5  and make a great defensive play late in the game . I am not sure what more he has to do but, he clearly belongs in this lineup everyday . I mean when your hot your hot and he is clearly hot right now .

Enjoy this one Red Sox nation as we get ready for a late night tomorrow .

The number one good news story thid year….. so far

The RedSox showed some signs of life against Toronto on Saturday and got themselves a 4 to 1 win. Josh Beckett looked great for the second start in a row and the duo of Bard and Paplebon looked solid as they closed out the win . But the one spot I was impressed with again was Jed Lowrie .

In going 3-5 Lowrie is starting to mount a solid case for more playing time and might even trump Marco Scutaro as the Red Sox starting shortstop. It is no secret that I am a fan of Jed Lowrie I’m just glad he is getting the press and praise he deserves . Lowrie made his major leauge debut April 15th 2008 but due to a wrist injury and mono he has been held to limited playing time . Last season with the mono in check he showed that he can be a solid contributor at the  major leauge level .

Now I think it is also important to note that just because I am a big fan of Lowrie doesn’t mean that I don’t like Marco Scutaro . I just feel that with Pedroia and Lowrie you have two strong players that can act as kindle to this Boston squad .

timf.jpgIn other news I’ve been hearing some chatter that the Red Sox are growing somewhat wary of Saltalamacchia’s defense ,  I can tell you after watchy Salty up close I am a fan of his offensive  promise but, his defense has me thinking of Rube Baker . There has been talk of maybe bringing up catcher Tim Federowicz. I think this in my opinion would be a great move as he reminds me a lot of a young Jason Varitek .

Snow Makes me Think

As 2010 come to a close I can’t help but wonder what will be the big story of 2011.

It might be the strong pitching of Lester and Buchholz . Or it could be A-Gone tearing up fenway with his bat while Crawford and Ellsbury are tearing it up on the basepath. But I think the main story of 2011 could be a bit of a surprise – Jose Iglesias . Last year I said on this very blog that I thought Iglesias could be R.O.Y 2010 …. ok  I jumped the gun .

But I think even though most folks think he is not going to make a splash until 2012 I still think 2011 could be a big year for IglesiasJed Lowrie looks to be the super utility guy for Red Sox this year but… If 2011 is anything like 2010 Iglesias could be summoned to Fenway .

But for now we wait and shovel our way out of snowy New England…….

MY Deadline Deal

Ok I have to be honest this season hasn’t been what I expected but in the same breath I can also say I haven’t been disappointed . I think that the 2010 Red Sox have been gritty and a fun group to watch . I also feel that Tito has done an amazing job with what he has had to work with . All that said I think ( I hope I am wrong) this team is not going to get healthy in time .However, I think if the front office makes a move they could make this a great race and October could be in sight .

I know a lot of you are thinking that getting healthy might be the best move they could make and you might be right however, I think that the right move could make really help . Who do they get? Who do they trade away ???

Here is my Trade Deadline Trade

Jed Lowrie

Michale  Bowden

Adrian Beltre

To The Brewers for

PRINCE FIELDER

Crazy???? Maybe but, it might just work

Your not giving up too much and Fielder could provide a little extra to put them over the top

Bowden could really end up working out for the Brewers and the Sox get a big bat.  Youk moves to third and all of a sudden we have ourselves some October baseball

I like Lowrie

Every Red Sox  spring training I tend to pick one guy to root for it might be a rookie that has no shot of making the team or a vet trying to comeback . This year I’m rooting for Jed Lowrie.

jed.jpg

Lowrie who is trying to comeback form a wrist injury which he devolped in 2008 but played  through the pain . He is only 25 and only has 1 yr 111 days mlb service time so he is not considered a rookie but, he has barely scratched the surface . He has shown pop in his bat  hitting the first home run in Citi Field history in the pre season then hitting one for real against

Cleveland on October 4th . Like every player with injury there are a lot of “if’s” but if he can pull it together he could be a solid bench piece for the Sox in 2010 . Sure we don’t know what the future holds for Lowrie and his wrist hold but here’s hoping everything works out

Are The Red Sox short at short??

Ok so it is finally snowing here in Boston. Not like they said it would (but hey we all can’t be right all the time?) So I don’t know if it is the snow or what but I have a few concerns about the Red Sox ok maybe just one – Shortstop-  I mean  can Marco Scutaro do the job? If Marco can’t get the job then what about lowrie is he healthy???  Can Bill Hall sub??? What about Jose Iglesias???

I know think happy thoughts I am but the only thought and vision I can think of is Julio Lugo.

Scutaro is decent and doesn’t break down. I do believe there was some concern with plantar fasciitis which bothered him the last 2 months of the season. I also have to admit I’m a little nervous about a 34 year old shortstop.

Right now Jed Lowrie is listed as the backup to Scutaro which makes me even more nervous since Lowrie has had major troubles with the wrist. Lowrie may not even factor in if he is not healthy he could be shelved again but, if he comes to spring training healthy he becomes a huge insurance policy.

If the above options don’t work out they could turn to Bill Hall or they could show off the future and go with Iglesias. I’m not going to lie I’m super excited about this kid and I could see him in the bigs especially if he has a great spring. But I think the Red Sox brain -trust is smarter and wouldn’t want jump the gun

I know I am getting way ahead of myself but hey it’s just hot stove talk and besides I’m freezing. So hurry up spring training I’m ready.

Rookie of the Year 2010? Yes Jose

Ok mark it down January 25th 2010 – Jose Iglesias – 2010 Rookie of the Year.

I know you think I’m talking crazy. Maybe but let’s look at the facts shall we? Marco Scutaro who by the way has one of the coolest names ever is 34 years old and has basically been a backup most of his career. Jed Lowrie who is currently listed as the backup to Scutaro might not even factor in due to injuries in which case they would turn to Bill Hall.

Ok still think I’m getting ahead of myself maybe. But the fact is if Iglesias has a hot spring and does well in Portland the Red Sox might make the jump. Last season it was very similar to Tazawa.

The future could be only a few months away
