Fenway we Have a Problem

Ok So I haven’t written in a while been busy adjusting to life off the D.L.

I am going to get straight to the point here : Fenway we have a problem!

The Red Sox look to be a power in the east this year with their pitching and defense the bats are a bit of a question but no worries . However there is one huge issue folks….. The bullpen is a mess. Bard ,Paplebon and then we pray fenway faithful then we freakin pray .

In the winter as they loaded up on arms I thought “wow we are going to be stack in the pen .

Gabby Hernandez – gone   Brian Shouse– gone  Joe Nelson – minors  Robert Manuel -minors

I am not over reacting here I’m freaking out .

Bonser who looked decent early is out of options so he will most likely get released if it doesn’t workout ( it doesn’t look good ) Tazawa looks so so  ( he had a better spring last year )

Bowden just can’t seem to hold it together he could rebound ( we’ll see)

Besides Casey Kelly  ( We’d have to  be 20 games out by fourth of july to see him ) there isn’t much lurking in the minors  . Felix Doubront could be an option later in the year you could also see old friend Kason Gabbard .

Ok mini meltdown over opening day is 8 days away

Rookie of the Year 2010? Yes Jose

Ok mark it down January 25th 2010 – Jose Iglesias – 2010 Rookie of the Year.

I know you think I’m talking crazy. Maybe but let’s look at the facts shall we? Marco Scutaro who by the way has one of the coolest names ever is 34 years old and has basically been a backup most of his career. Jed Lowrie who is currently listed as the backup to Scutaro might not even factor in due to injuries in which case they would turn to Bill Hall.

Ok still think I’m getting ahead of myself maybe. But the fact is if Iglesias has a hot spring and does well in Portland the Red Sox might make the jump. Last season it was very similar to Tazawa.

The future could be only a few months away

Got Pitching ????? We DO !!!!!!

e if you’re aware of this but the RED SOX have pitching. I’m not just talking the starting rotation either they have some serious reserves as well. Beckett, Lackey, Lester, Buchholtz, Matsuzaka and Tim Wakefield (The last two could flip with either one heading into the bullpen depending on what happens in spring training.) So let’s look at the rotation pretty solid right? One of the strongest in all of baseball right? Now what if I showed you the full rotation.

The full rotation consists of guys that most likely will be in the pen or at AAA but could start if needed.

RED SOX FULL Rotation

Beckett

Lackey

Lester

Buchholtz

Matsuzaka

Wakefield

Tazawa

Bowden

Bosner

Now I know there are a lot of ifs like if bosner will even make the club much less be healthy.

Bowden looks like he is going to be in the MLB pen. Tazawa could start in AAA but could be used if needed. Wakefield well we all know he’s always ready to pitch whenever needed.

A dark horse in all of this Kason Gabbard he signed a minor league deal over the winter and if healthy could help however he looks to be in Portland/Pawtucket for the year .

A third point worth bringing up is that all of this could get toss out and a spring training trade could go down .A lot of talk has been brought of A – Gone from San Diego but I think it would take a pretty big package something like  Buchholtz, Westmoreland ,Kelly , and a catching prospect . If the deal didn’t involve Kelly I would say do it? Buchholtz is a gem but he could fetch a big bat and Westmoreland he is a born hitter but I question his defense.

Red Sox Look to Roll into September

Ah it’s September and
the
 Red
Sox
 unlike another pair of
sox (White Sox
) don’t have to sell
off the team. Ok let’s be honest  the playoffs appeared to be fading
quickly and it looked like our September call up’s were going to be a Glimpse
of things to come with the likes of
Lars Anderson  ,  Bowden  in the rotation  and others from
the rich farm system . But wait……

Instead you’re looking
at Tazawa
 as a starter pitching
in meaningful games, Jeff Bailey
giving you his bat off the bench   and Jed lowrie adding a
little stability at short. I also think you’ll see
Reddick and Bowden and maybe either Mcbeth or Jones in the pen

Happy September
everybody it’s going to be a hell of a month
