Fenway we Have a Problem

Ok So I haven’t written in a while been busy adjusting to life off the D.L.

I am going to get straight to the point here : Fenway we have a problem!

The Red Sox look to be a power in the east this year with their pitching and defense the bats are a bit of a question but no worries . However there is one huge issue folks….. The bullpen is a mess. Bard ,Paplebon and then we pray fenway faithful then we freakin pray .

In the winter as they loaded up on arms I thought “wow we are going to be stack in the pen .

Gabby Hernandez – gone   Brian Shouse– gone  Joe Nelson – minors  Robert Manuel -minors

I am not over reacting here I’m freaking out .

Bonser who looked decent early is out of options so he will most likely get released if it doesn’t workout ( it doesn’t look good ) Tazawa looks so so  ( he had a better spring last year )

Bowden just can’t seem to hold it together he could rebound ( we’ll see)

Besides Casey Kelly  ( We’d have to  be 20 games out by fourth of july to see him ) there isn’t much lurking in the minors  . Felix Doubront could be an option later in the year you could also see old friend Kason Gabbard .

Ok mini meltdown over opening day is 8 days away

Mother In-Law Knows Best

I am not only blessed with a beautiful wife but I also have a mother in-law who is a heck of a Red Sox fan. We were discussing a few of the latest moves that Sox have made and she “said what’s up with all the pitching they need a bat ” Now I could have thrown her the usual “Pitching wins championships” but I knew she would tear into that like a long hanging fast ball. So I went with plan B – I agreed (After all she did make me lunch)

Seriously she is right. I do think pitching is important and even though it is a broken record -IT DOES WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS. I also think the Red Sox head into camp with a ton of pitching options. Everyone knows (or thinks they know what the rotation will look like) but even further than your emergency starters and bullpen they are deep

Names like Jorge Sosa, Joe Nelson, Fabio Castro, and Kason Gabbard may not seem like studs but they could prove very valuable in a long season.

However, as my mother in -law put it all the pitching in the world won’t help if you can’t hit.

Now let me clear I am not saying the lineup is full of pop flies but I will say that it more of defense minded looking club. There are a lot of if’s – Will Papi be Papi or will his first have of 09 and struggle leaving V-Mart as the only threat????

I really in my heart of hearts feel that there will be either before the season or at the deadline in July a trade for a bat. I mean how could there not be? I mean is Beltre going to hit 48 homers like he did in 04?? Well stranger things have happened. For all the pitching can and may be for 2010 unless they get off to a crazy start and the bats gel you’re going to hear cries for a big bat all season.

Nelson sign’s minor leauge deal

The Red Sox signed pictcher Joe Nelson to a Minor leauge deal.
